Chapter 15: MOA Part 1: Lipid Synthesis Inhibitors & Seedling Shoot Growth Inhibitors

15.8 Seedling Shoot Growth Inhibitors

Now we turn our attention to the second herbicide Mode of Action, Seedling Shoot Growth Inhibitors and two Sites of Action:  Lipid Synthesis Inhibitors (not ACCase Inhibitors) and Long-Chain Fatty Acid Inhibitors.  In this mode we are looking at herbicides that interfere with a plant’s ability to elongate fatty acid chains, which would otherwise build waxes and components of the cuticle.  The following diagram is a reminder of where these fall in the biochemical pathways.

  • Seedling Shoot Growth Inhibitors
    • Group 8. Lipid Synthesis Inhibitors, not ACCase (LSI) (HRAC Group N)
    • Group 15. Long-Chain Fatty Acid Inhibitors (May also see this referred to as Mitosis Inhibitors (CDI). (HRAC Group K3)
