Chapter 18: MOA Part 4 – Photosynthesis Inhibitors (PPO & Pigment Inhibitors)

18.8 Herbicide Resistance to Pigment Inhibitors

At the time this chapter was published, four different weeds species in the US had been reported as being resistant to Pigment Inhibitors.  These include:

  • Hydrilla (Hydrilla verticillata), in Florida
  • Palmer Amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri) and Tall Waterhemp (Amaranthus tuberculatus (=A. rudis) to HPPD inhibitors in the midwest
  • Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli var. crus galli) in Arkansas to DOXP Inhibitors.

For the latest updated information on herbicide resistance, including research on the mechanisms of resistance, see The International Survey of Herbicide Resistant Weeds, a collaborative effort between weed scientists in over 80 countries, located at www.weedscience.org
