Wikipedia has a growing presence in Thailand, especially following the creation of the Thai language edition in December of 2003.[1] Over the past two decades the platform has created a large variety of content pages, with more than 145,887 articles existing as of February, 2022.[2] Furthermore, the encyclopedia has consistently ranked as one of the country’s most used websites. Alexa Internet Inc., an American web traffic analysis company, reported that Wikipedia (all languages combined) ranked 13th for Thailand’s Top Sites in 2017.[1]
The online encyclopedia maintains an extensive database on the category of Thailand, with subpages focusing on the spoken languages, demographics of people, cultural traditions, geography, government & politics, economy, and more.[3] Wikipedia statistics have recorded 418,355+ registered users and 1,127+ active users, with these numbers increasing daily (February, 2022).[2]
Thai Wikipedia pages are predominantly edited by a WikiProject group, with most of the members either residing in, or just sharing a general interest, in topics that relate to Thailand.[4] In addition to creating new articles, their group also highlights certain articles that need to be worked on with tasks such as translating, adding missing photographs or images, and updating geocoordinate data.[4] For more information about WikiProject Thailand, such as their organization’s editing advice or open tasks that they are currently requesting assistance on, their webpage is linked below.[4]
