This article talks about the impact of new U.S. laws that prevent American companies from exporting semiconductors to China.  The article is written by James O’Malley, who is a freelance writer from the United Kingdom.  He primarily covers articles on technology and IT and how it relates to Britain.  The article was published in a magazine called PC Pro.  PC Pro is the United Kingdom’s number IT monthly magazine.  It has been around since 1994 and it keeps readers in the U.K. up to date on the latest happenings in technology.

The article is mainly highlighting how new U.S. legislation passed by the United States Department of Commerce in December of 2022 caused a huge shock in the global semiconductor supply chain.  In December of last year, the U.S. department of commerce came up with new restrictions that prevent American companies from exporting their most advanced chips to China.  The article then goes into a breakdown of how this can change the technology landscape for many years to come.  Finally, it breaks down which huge tech companies can be most impacted by this new legislation and political strife.  It specifically talks about Apple’s huge reliance on China and how policies like this make it hard for companies like them.

The perspectives on this article are really interesting.  It is very neutral in that it is coming from a U.K. based magazine, and not a magazine located in the U.S.A. or China.  In addition to this, it is heavily focused on the technology implications, rather than the political ones.  It does touch on how this legislation has created another political tension between the U.S.A. and China, but it does not spend long focusing on this.  Instead, it is focused on how American tech companies who rely on China are going to be impacted.  The neutrality and the analytical tone that James O’Malley uses while writing it, makes it an informative article for someone who doesn’t know much about the topic.
