34 Country Report: Data Visualization

I chose to utilize a line graph to visually represent my data because it conveys trends over time and it showcases one data series effectively. The data that I was able to obtain from the UNdata website did not divide up this data by categories beyond time period, so I wanted to make sure that I chose a data visualization style that effectively communicated information over time. Additionally, because there were no sub-categories, charts that showcased different measured values in a given time period, such as a Marimekko chart or a grouped bar chart, did not seem like logical choices. Then, I was analyzing the visual representations of bar charts and line graphs. On Datawrapper, the bar chart was aligned vertically instead of horizontally, which made it less intuitive to read trends overtime than with the line graph. After carefully looking over my data visualization options, I decided that the line graph most effectively communicated my selected data set.
