77 Country Report: Data Visualization

vanniel6

Germany is currently #3 out of the top 10 countries for increasing threatened mammal species in the year 2021. The data that was presented offered information on threatened mammal, bird, and reptile species however I wanted to narrow it down to just mammals to present the data better. The visualization I chose was based off the thought that it would be easier to see the size difference between Germany and Switzerland compared to the others. The gap is rather wide from the top 2 to the next 5, and the bubble chart displays this well and in a more interesting way than just a bar or pie graph. The key allows the person to click on the percentages to individually pull up each country instead of hovering over each one as a different viewing option. Overall I chose to use a bubble chart for easy use and a clear presentation of Germany’s biodiversity crisis compared to other Western European countries.
