Differing numbers of protestors in France
Number of Protestors according to Police and Number of Protestors according to Unions
I chose this particular visualization method to give a good representation of the protests happening in France, and to show how data and reports can have misleading or contradicting information. In my last global news post I talked about the ongoing protests in France, and the article had heavy emphasis on the amount of protestors. While looking further into the information I found that the police and the union were reporting different numbers of protestors on the same days. This is what my graph shows.
I chose a line graph for a few reasons. One, I wanted to show just how much the reported numbers of protestors were different. Just visually you can see how big the gap is between the reported numbers. Second, I wanted to show that both reports followed the same trends of increasing or decreasing protestors. I think it’s interesting to show this information to think about why reports would be so different, and which numbers are more accurate. This visualization shows that while the protests are pulling large numbers of people, it is unclear how many there actually are.
