Data Visual

The data that I chose to visualize shows the number of state-led interventions in internet freedom in Russia in 2020. I wanted to visualize this data to show the magnitude of censorship issues that are prevalent in Russia. When visualizing my data, I chose to use a bar chart because I felt that by putting the data side by side it portrayed how prevalent the censorship interventions are compared to other types of interventions. From the visualization, you can see that all of the other categories of state-led interventions, do not come close to the amount of state-led interventions due to censorship. If you were to combine all the other state-led interventions, this still would not even come close to the amount of censorship. Overall, the bar chart was the most clear and concise visualization, while still depicting the sheer magnitude of the censorship problem in Russia. I thought about using a pie chart, but with how little of a slice that most of the state-led interventions had, the labels all got jumbled up and made the visual hard to comprehend, which is why I ultimately chose a bar graph.
