47% of Moroccans refuse to be neighbors with African migrants, new survey

Morocco and the bulk of North Africa are experiencing an influx of immigration coming from Sub-Saharan Africa. Morocco and the North African region as a whole act as gateway countries for Sub-Saharan immigrants making their way to Europe. The present article explores a survey conducted by the Moroccan Center for Citizenship (CMC) that found that a shocking 47% of Moroccans refuse to be neighbors with African migrants. The CMC study found that Moroccans are split almost 50/50 on whether or not immigrants from Sub-Saharan Africa specifically should be able to receive access to education, healthcare, and other public services in the same ways as Moroccans. The study also asked participants about employment of Sub-Saharan African immigrants as well as how much Sub-Saharan African immigrants contribute to Moroccan society and the economy. Shockingly, 70% of Moroccans believe that Sub-Saharan African immigrants do not contribute enough to the economy.

The article chiefly utilizes information from the CMC study with little to no context or commentary on its findings. The 2023 CMC study consisted of 3,158 Moroccans throughout the country as well as Moroccans living abroad. This helps add some diversity to the opinions presented in the study and in the article. In my opinion, the article would be made better by adding quotes or interviews from Moroccans about Sub-Saharan African immigrants. The article lacks other information that could support the findings of the CMC study while also expanding understanding of Moroccans and their views on Sub-Saharan African immigrants
