Comparing different languages’ Wikipedia pages is hugely eye-opening. In Ireland, the two main languages are Gaelic and English, which made it a little more challenging to find out if some of the people editing the English page about Ireland are from Ireland or an English-speaking country. However, a page about the Irish Wikipedia page gave some logistics about Irish Wikipedia. The page was established in October 2003. According to the page, there are 54,780 registered users and over 55,000 articles written. This suggests a relatively large presence of the Irish population on Wikipedia. While there may be a more significant presence, the Irish page in Gaelic has not been updated since November 2022. There are a lot of international people that have ties to Ireland editing the page, as well as a few native Irishmen. The English page about Ireland has a lot of global presence from inside Ireland and all over Europe.
The Irish Wikipedia page in Gaelic and English are very similar, but the Gaelic page has less information on each discussed topic. While there is a small section of references and external links, there are plenty of links within the article about issues that have a separate page on Wikipedia. The links that I investigated had heavy research behind them and credible sources. There is plenty of information about Ireland and its’ culture; the information is organized differently than the English page. The discussion sector of the Gaelic page is not very active, with the last comment in 2009 suggesting that many changes were being made as the page was being created. There seemed to be a few editors going over the page; most of them were from Ireland or had extensive knowledge and interest in Ireland. Overall, Wikipedia has a moderate presence in Ireland because of the balance of editors from Ireland and different parts of the world.
