Access Discrimination

Not all will have equal access to LLM platforms, particularly as they are increasingly privatized and commodified in a globalized world designed to benefit the privileged. There are immediate access inequities geopolitically. These include:

  • physical and socioeconomic access to internet, smartphones, or computers
  • unequal access for women and girls
  • accessibility as usability for disabled people
  • access in regions that employ censorship
  • “freemium” or tiered access to quality of services based on socioeconomic means

DeepMind identified the harms of “disparate access to benefits due to hardware, software, [and] skill constraints”.
