Hi! In Columbus, we have the opportunity to go all sorts of places. We have buses, that can take us all over the city and to cities far away. For instance, I can get on a bus very close to me and travel to Chicago, one of America’s largest cities and it takes about 6 hours. We also have access to an international airport. So if we want to, we can buy a plane ticket and fly anywhere from New York to Canada. How do you get around Istanbul and to different places in Turkey?

    Hi Erica 🙂

In Istanbul you could use buses to go everywhere in Turkey. You can find ticket eaisly in Istanbul. We have 2 main terminal for buses. One of them is in European Side(Esenler Terminal) and the other one is in Asian Side(Harem Terminal). It takes 22 hour with bus from west to east in Turkey. And you can find buses to go Europe.(Germany-France-Greece-Bulgaria) Also we have train lines but it’s not popular like buses and planes.
In Istanbul we have 2 international airport you can find ticket to all around the world. If you buy your flight ticket early sometimes it will be cheaper than bus tickets. We have 3 big airline company. 15-20 years ago we only had one airline company so the ticket prices was very expensive but nowadays you can find cheap tickets for travel.

      What about USA ?
Is it cheap to use planes for domestic travels ?

        Hi Ferhat,
It can be somewhat cheap but also expensive to use planes for domestic travel in the United States. From my experience, sometimes I can find cheap tickets with certain airlines or if I’m looking far in advance. If I look for plane tickets right before I’m supposed to travel, the flights can be very expensive. In general, bus tickets are much cheaper than flying, but a bus ride across the US would take many days.

Another important thing when talking about price is to remember that where is just as important as how far away. For instance, a plane flight to New York City might be more expensive than a flight to Little Rock, Arkansas, even though Arkansas is farther away, New York City is much more popular. Buses really can be a long ride, and the seats are often very close together. There are a lot of factors that go into the price, just remember: A plane flight to Hawaii is always expensive. 🙂

Travel in Istanbul is quite extensive, with a lot of choices. In Columbus we don’t have quite as many options, there isn’t much access to train travel, for example. Perhaps bicycling is our unique advantage. Natalie and I both use our bicycles to get to campus!
