About us.

Elena Foulis, Ph.D. is a professor at Texas A&M, San Antonio and has been directing the oral history project, Oral Narratives of Latin@s in Ohio (ONLO) since 2014. The project is an ongoing collection of over 150 video narratives, which are a central part of the service-learning course “Spanish in Ohio.” Some of these narratives can be found in her iBook titled, Latin@ Stories Across Ohio. She also co-wrote Mi idioma, mi comunidad: Español para bilingües. Foulis’s research explores Latin@ voices through oral history and performance, identity and place, ethnography and family history in advanced heritage language writing courses. She is also host and producer for the Latin@ Stories podcast, an extension of her oral history project. This podcast invites audiences to connect and learn more about the Latina/o/e experiences locally, while amplifying the voices of the community everywhere. She co-hosted the Art and Sciences podcast, Woke Pedagogies.

Alexandra Rodríguez Sabogal, Ph.D. completed her doctoral degree from Vanderbilt University and is a faculty member at Texas A&M. Dr. Rodríguez has taught a broad range of courses including, Spanish for Heritage Speakers, Latin American Culture, Spanish American Literature and Latin American Film History. Her teaching and research explore gender, race, and culture, resulting in multiple articles published in academic journals such as Hispania, Afro-Hispanic Review, Chasqui, REGS (Revista de Estudios de Género y Sexualidades)/JGSS (Journal of Gender and Sexuality Studies), Studies in Spanish & Latin American Cinemas, and The Latin Americanist.
