Figure 8: Sebaceous gland, dog.  Sebaceous glands are located within the dermis adjacent to hair follicles, and are composed of clusters of epithelial cells, sebocytes, with foamy, poorly staining cytoplasm, due to the lipid-rich sebum that they secrete.  Sebaceous glands empty into ducts (upper right of image) that communicate with the hair follicle.

The cells that comprise the Glands of Zeis and Meibomian gland are histologically identical.

Figure 9: Hepatoid glands, dog.  Hepatoid glands are located within the dermis of the perineum, tail, and prepuce of carnivores.  These glands are modified sebaceous glands.
