Fundic stomach, dog. Superficially, the gastric mucosa contains gastric pits, which form superficial invaginations and are lined by mucus-secreting columnar epithelial cells. Deeper, the gastric glands are primarily composed of intermixed chief cells and parietal glands (fundus).
