There are three chairs at the kitchen counter. That makes it easy for Mom or Dad to serve the kids, or to sit down for a quick lunch. I wonder how the family living here does big Thanksgiving meals. Houses like this do not always have a formal dining room.

We are usually living in apartments in Turkey. Our houses looks like this houses too, inside. But outside, the apartments has same architectures. They are not estetic, and I think, I can say that, same all of them. It’s just my idea. I hope my friends won’t mad at me 🙂

Hi Melis! I want to make sure I understand what you are saying about the outside of your apartments. The outside of apartments in Turkey look like these? What about in Istanbul, specifically? What is it you do not like about the aesthetic? I am very curious. Thank you!!

I don’t like same looking houses. Same color, same plan all of them.

I think that it is really cool that there is an architectural connection between Turkey and the U.S. I do want to say that houses here can and do vary greatly depending upon what area you are in. Sometimes they can be much bigger and other times even much smaller. It makes going to a friends house for the first very interesting. Though, there are a lot of people here that live in apartments, especially in the cities.

      Hi Melis,

In the U.S., people usually live in apartments in/near a city, and houses further out from the city. Is this the same in Istanbul? Or do most people live in apartments regardless of where they are?

Yes, can you tell us about any neighborhoods? It must be much different than Columbus.

Hi everybody! Sorry for the late response! I have lived in all different types of homes: houses, apartments, and duplexes. Here in Columbus, I live in an apartment with four of my friends. Back home in Cleveland, I live in a duplex with my family. A duplex is a house separated into two separate living areas. So our “neighbor” lives on the first floor of the house and my family lives on the second and third floor of the house. We have four bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, a den, two bathrooms, and a balcony!
