Quechua I
Quechua I, is an introduction to learning the Quechua language in the context of Quechua speaking culture. Quechua is the most popular indigenous language of South America, spoken natively by about 10 million people. The course employs a multifaceted, communicative approach to second language acquisition that foments the development of the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the semester’s end, learners will be able to comprehend, speak, read, and write the language at a Novice high level by using introductory vocabulary and grammar to carry out essential communicative functions in context and in culturally appropriate ways. Also, the learner can solve uncomplicated communicative tasks. These goals are best achieved through using Quechua as the primary language of communication in the classroom, consistent attendance, daily pre-class preparation, and active in-class participation.
