Bundle 1: Consuming Literature—Then and Now

Overview

Before we experience what people read in pre-1800 Britain, we’ll examine how they read.  In this bundle you will

  • Think about the ways in which books presented themselves to readers in pre-1800 Britain and about how packaging affects meaning and interpretation.
  • Question standard assumptions about anonymous authors!
  • Learn about some reading practices common in the past but not much practiced in the present.
