Welcome to the online interactive Excel workbook which serves as a learning activity companion to the online coursebooks for SWK 3401 (Research & Statistics for Understanding Social Work Problems and Diverse Populations) and SWK 3402 (Research & Statistics for Understanding Social Work Intervention). The material is designed to guide you through activities using the Excel software program, which you should have available as you engage in these activities. The activities are designed to reinforce what you are learning in the main coursebooks, helping you extend your understanding of key concepts by applying them to realistic scenarios.
- The workbook is organized to correspond with specific course modules, and the main coursebooks refer you to the associated workbook activities. For example, the first activity assigned appears in SWK 3401 Module 2, chapter 4, and is designated in the Excel workbook as: SWK 3401.2-4.1 (course number, module number, chapter number, assignment number).
- You will need to have Excel 2016 software and the “Data Analysis ToolPak” for Excel operating on your computer for coursework involving data. If you are using an earlier version of Excel, you may experience incompatibility difficulties in working with the instructor and classmates. All registered students have access to Excel 2016, for free, from the University’s Office 365 license agreements. Handouts with links and instructions for Windows and MacOS computers are provided through links posted in the Carmen course site and at http://office365.osu.edu.
- It may not be possible to engage in all assigned Excel learning activities with tablets and phone interfaces. Campus digital union/computer lab equipment should be able to support the course learning activities.
- Additional help resources about how to work with the Excel software are available on the Microsoft 365 website: https://support.office.com/en-us/excel.
